According to foreign media reports, Mozilla official said the organization plans to develop a web-based mobile operating system, called “Boot To Gecko”.

The project is similar to the Chrome OS, “Boot To Gecko” for mobile phones and flat panel devices, Chrome OS is currently focused on the Internet.

Mozilla developers Andrea? Gal (Andreas Gal) wrote in a blog: “The new project is called Boot to Gecko, the open source code publicly available in real time.” Gecko is the Firefox browser and Thunderbird mail client used rendering engine. In contrast, while Google’s Android is an open source mobile operating system, but its Android code released until after the formal announcement.

Gal said: “We will open environment for system development, we will release the source code for real-time, we will add all the successful introduction of appropriate standards group, we will track the resulting changes. Local application does not will run in Firefox, we will try to make them run in the network. “

Mozilla developers want to build an army, developing a web-based operating system. Mozilla vice president of technology strategy Mike? Schaffer (Mike Shaver), said, Boot to Gecko applications do not use the Android SDK, instead is to run current applications and new network API.

Schaffer pointed out the four development areas. One is the new network API, mainly to existing equipment and systems for the prototype API. Operating system will support the current number of essential mobile features, including call, text messaging, camera, USB, Bluetooth, and near-field chips. Boot to Gecko will include some low-level driver for the kernel and Android code, so you can run on the Android device. The final area is the application development. Boot to Gecko’s main purpose is to allow local network applications can run on your system, run the same manner as in the local program iOS system.

Schaffer said, Mozilla will use Tegra 2 devices, these devices provide video and audio formats open hardware acceleration technology. Gal said, Mozilla preliminary plan to launch a Firefox for Android as the main screen of the device, adding some of which can be customized API.
